Life in Mono
This work responds to the popularity of "dark tourism" that is a current trend around the world. Life in Mono combines footages taken from different "abandoned" sites to create an atmosphere of a Derridean inspired 'present-absence'. The background soundscape was created by blending different synths together with consideration of it being played in reverse. Through the utilisation of looping audiovisual components, time is experienced as a constant recurrence. The work is played on a television monitor placed at a precarious position in the gallery and the sound is barely audible amidst the rustling of the natural, human, and vehicular noises outside the building.
