Aberrance
*'gate gate pāragate pārasaṃgate bodhi svāhā'
Aberrance is a commentary on the commercialisation of sacred 'Eastern' arts and religions' embracing of technological modes of communication. An image, drawn according to the Tibetan Buddhist Thangka painting tradition is digitally projected against a wall with the Heart sutra chant being played on loop. The 'voices' were generated from a variety of read aloud voices from both Microsoft and Macintosh computers, making them neither human or more-than-human. Instead, the manufactured nature of this installation (a still projection, AI generated voices) reveals the lack of the actual drawing or real voices. Is the experience still sacred?
